Winter is upon us and it is time to get in shape for the upcoming season! We have designed a 6-week long 3 days/week strength and conditioning program specifically to get you ready for your winter skiing/snowboarding objectives. Go into the season with a solid foundation of strength and aerobic capacity. The goal is to build a stronger version of you, so that when you go out in pursuit of what you love to do during this upcoming winter season, you’re going to be starting off in peak condition, and at your highest point of fitness. We want to prepare you for the outside. In the end the mountains don’t care how tired you are, how much your lungs hurt or how much your legs burn. The stronger you are, the faster you are, the fitter you are, the better your going to be at your sport and the less likely you are to get hurt, and the more fun you’re going to have!
The foundation for this 6 week program is based on these three principles:
Core strength and stability: When on the mountain we are constantly using our core. The stronger and more efficiently your core works, the less force you need from all your other joints. We move core to extremity and at Targhee Athletics we train it that way. A strong core is essential to greater success in the mountains.
Stamina: Injuries tend to happen when we get tired. At Targhee Athletics our program is designed to make you stronger as well as to increase your work capacity and cardio-respiratory endurance. We use all sorts of training tools to achieve this. The journey to a successful season begins prior to jumping on the mountain!
Injury prevention: Throughout the upcoming season we all want to stay injury free. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, the two most prominent injuries from skiing are ACL and MCL tears. During ski fitness we will attack imbalances that can be a precursor to these injuries and help build a strong joint to assist in resisting all the pressures you put on during ski season.
