2019 Friday Night Lights!

2019 Intramural Open!

The open is fast approaching! This year we are adding some new "elements" to our annual Friday Night Lights at Targhee Athletics, and we think you're going to like it! We have MANY new faces and it’s going to be an amazing event that EVERYONE can partake in. Read below.

What is it?

What is the Intramural Open? Every Friday night of the CrossFit Open, teams will participate in the Open workout of that week at Targhee Athletics.

The CrossFit Open is a 5-week competition that hundreds of thousands of CrossFitters from around the world participate in every year. Every Thursday for 5 weeks, starting February 21st, CrossFit headquarters announces a workout, and athletes have until the following Monday to complete the workout and submit their score.

Every Friday night during the 5 weeks everyone in the intramural open will do the workouts at Targhee Athletics "under the lights." We will have heats running from about 4 - 7pm on Friday Nights. Spectators are welcome and encouraged to come and cheer everyone on. It is a TON of fun, and there is more energy in the gym then you will ever believe!

What's new this year?

TEAMS! This year we are incorporating TEAMS!! Each team will earn points for participation. There will also be a ton of fun challenges and ways to earn points for your team through a variety of fun activities during the 5 weeks of the Open.

PRIZES! What are you competing for? Bragging rights and a team BBQ by Targhee Athletics!

Who/How To Participate:

ANYONE is welcome and encouraged to participate!

ANY experience level (1 week to 10 years) who wishes to have fun with this event.

A link to register is below. You must sign up by Sunday February 17th. Then on the 18th the team captains (coaches) will get together and draft athletes to their teams. Then we will announce teams at the conclusion of that evening and this is where the fun begins. Teams will get in contact and begin planning their team spirit ideas and other fun stuff.

Going to miss a week? That is FINE! The scoring is participation based and if at least 80% of your team is at Friday Night lights you will get the full point allotment.


Just like last year you do not have to sign up through the CrossFit website, however if you would like to sign up through the CrossFit website make sure to that when you register through the gym you select the "With CrossFit HQ Registration" option.

Registration is $30 and includes an awesome 2019 Open T-Shirt. This year it will be in your TEAM COLOR!

If you are also registering through CrossFit HQ then it is a seperate $20 fee, but make sure you join the Targhee Athletics team.

Make sure to add your name to the draft board at the gym in the front entry AND sign up online.

This year there will be a different scoring system. Points will be allotted for the following categories:

Team participation - Points allotted if 80% of the team participates on Friday Night.

Weekly challenges - Each week there will be a weekly challenge for the teams to complete. If your team completes the challenge, they will be awarded the points that challenge is worth.

Weekly team spirit awards - there will be a weekly theme! 80s night anyone??

Other bonus points!

Prepping for The Open / Don’t be Nervous

Every year, athletes get nervous or are uncertain about participating in The Open. Don’t be! The Open is an amazing experience and we have been preparing for this for the entire year, but definitely focusing on it the last few months (if you haven’t noticed). If you end up not being able to do a movement, there is a scaled division that you can participate in each week at your choosing. Coach Dayne also provides further scaling and modifications options as needed!

Finally, your coaches are a great resource to work 1 on 1 with you to develop these skills and get you prepared to help contribute to your team. Get in touch with them if you would like to work on something specific with the open around the corner.
